Transparency
Mission’s Governing Body and Police Department take issues of transparency very seriously. We want to work together with the community to create a safe place for all.
Kansas Attorney General Complaint Form
If you have an issue with any member of our department, please report it to us. Citizens may also file a complaint with the office of the Attorney General using an online form found here.
Data Collection Software
The department uses data collection software which provides the ability to track and manage information related to training, officer complaints and compliments, disciplinary actions, demographic data for traffic stops and pedestrian checks and more. This allows for greater transparency for reporting to the public, but will also provide early warning if something needs further investigation.
Immigration Enforcement
The Mission Police Department is committed to serving and protecting all members of our community. Our mission is grounded in public safety, trust, and respect for every person who lives in or visits our city.
We want to be clear: the Mission Police Department does not conduct immigration enforcement and does not assist federal immigration authorities, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with civil immigration enforcement activities.
Our officers do not ask individuals about their immigration status, nor do we stop, question, or detain people for the purpose of determining their immigration status. We believe that when residents feel safe calling the police, reporting crimes, interacting with police, and cooperating with investigations, our entire community is safer.
Like all law enforcement agencies, we comply with applicable state and federal laws and court orders. However, our daily work is focused on local public safety concerns, not immigration matters.
Kansas law prohibits municipalities from adopting policies that limit or restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws. As a result, cities like Mission cannot enact directives that interfere with ICE operations, including blocking administrative warrants or prohibiting federal immigration activity within city limits. If immigration enforcement activities were to occur in Mission, the role of the Mission Police Department would be limited to maintaining public safety, such as peacekeeping or traffic control, if circumstances warrant.
Federal immigration authorities are not required to notify the Mission Police Department when operating within city limits. Any information shared with the Department or the City would be provided on a courtesy basis only.
We value the trust of our residents and want everyone to know that if you need help, are a victim of a crime, or witness criminal activity, you can contact the Mission Police Department without fear.
We are proud to serve a diverse community and remain committed to fairness and dignity, which complement our core values of respect, integrity, and professionalism.

As local elected leaders, it is incumbent upon us to stand with those demanding accountability, equity and respect to recognize the humanity and dignity of every person.
But public statements are not the end of Mission’s commitment to this work, they are just the beginning. Mission’s call to action acknowledges that we are not immune from implicit bias, and understands that in order to advocate for racial justice, equity, and inclusion it will require an inward look at not only our operations, but our policy decisions and how we govern. We also recognize that this reflection must be ongoing and may introduce us to uncomfortable or unfamiliar conversations, but we stand ready and willing to begin the process of educating ourselves through a comprehensive and ongoing review of policies, practices, and sustained dialogue to ensure that all members of our community are protected equally, and we extend an open invitation to everyone in the community to join with us in this important work.
Please check back to the website for updated information as these conversations and initiatives unfold. We invite you to join us in any way you feel comfortable, and we look forward to the work we will do together moving forward.
