<\/span><\/p>\n Street Preservation Project 2026: <\/span><\/p>\n 54th Street (Lamar Avenue to Dearborn Street) and <\/span>61st Terrace (Woodson Street to Nall Avenue)<\/span><\/p>\n The 2026 <\/span>Residential Street Reconstruction Projects<\/span> includes full depth pavement reconstruction; curb and gu<\/span>tter removal and replacement; and stormwater <\/span>improvements<\/span> or repairs. Construction is <\/span>anticipated<\/span> to begin in <\/span>March 2026<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span> is estimated to be completed within 270 days from the issuance of <\/span>the notice to procced<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n Street Preservation Project 2025:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 61<\/span>st S<\/span>treet <\/span>(<\/span>Broadmoor to Barkley<\/span>)<\/span>, 62<\/span>nd <\/span>Street <\/span>(<\/span>Glenwood to Lamar<\/span>)<\/span>, Reeds <\/span>Road (<\/span>Johns<\/span>on Drive to 58<\/span>th <\/span>Street<\/span>),<\/span> and Beverly Drive <\/span>(<\/span>Dearborn to Reeds<\/span>)<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n 10\/17\/25: The final layer of asphalt on Beverly is anticipated for October 18, weather permitting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>9\/25\/25: The base layer of asphalt is scheduled for Beverly Drive starting this Friday or Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n 9\/18\/25: Starting tomorrow, the final two inches of asphalt will be paved. The schedule begins with 61st Street followed by Reeds Road. On either late Friday or Saturday, 62nd Street will take place.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 8\/20\/25: Beverly Drive is now scheduled to begin pavement removal on August 21st.<\/p>\n 8\/11\/25: Saw cutting on Beverly Drive will occur on August 13th in preparation for full removals. This is anticipated to start on August 25th or sooner, weather depending.\u00a0<\/p>\n 8\/6\/25: Beverly Drive is now scheduled to begin pavement removal on August 18th.\u00a0<\/p>\n 7\/30\/25: 61st Street is now substantially complete. We anticipate Reeds Road will be open to through traffic by the end of this week. Cement stabilization took place on 7\/29 for 62nd Street. Curb will be poured on 7\/31 with driveways and asphalt to follow. Pavement removal on Beverly Drive will begin sometime during the second week of August.\u00a0<\/p>\n 6\/30\/25: The base layer of 61st Street is complete and now open to traffic. Currently, curbs are being installed on Reeds Road, with paving taking place on 7\/1. The next street scheduled for removal is 62nd, with Beverly Drive to follow.\u00a0<\/p>\n 6\/10\/25: Pavement removal has begun on 61st Street, with additional grading and cement treatment to follow.\u00a0<\/p>\n 5\/12\/25: Rock Creek Trail closed between Barkley and West 61st Street. This will be closed for approximately 3 weeks. See detour map.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 4\/28\/25: Stormwater replacement work is starting on 62nd and Lamar and will then move to 61st Street.<\/span><\/p>\n 4\/25\/25: Stormwater replacement work continues. We anticipate it will be completed by the end of May.<\/p>\n Street Preservation Project 2024<\/span>: 55th Street, Lamar Ave. east to city limits.<\/p>\n Street Preservation Project 2023<\/span>: Beverly Ave., 56th to 57th; W. 50th Terr., 51st St. east to city limits; Riggs Ave. 53rd St., north to dead end; W. 61st Terr. Lamar Ave. to Woodson St.<\/p>\n Street Preservation Project 2022<\/span>: 62nd Street, Woodson Road to Lamar Avenue; Reeds Road, 49th Street to 50th Terrace; and Outlook Street, 49th Street to 51st Street.<\/p>\n Click here for more information on street preservation in Mission.<\/a><\/p>\n The CARS program provides funds to the cities of Johnson County to construct and maintain their major arterials. Each year the cities submit a five-year road improvement plan to Johnson County. Using a scoring system, Johnson County selects projects and allocates funds. The county pays 50% of the project\u2019s construction and construction inspection costs. Cities are responsible for design, right-of-way, and utility relocation costs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n C.A.R.S Project 2026:<\/span> Johnson Drive Re<\/span>construction <\/span>Project <\/span><\/span>(Lamar to Metcalf) <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Please refer to our page<\/a> dedicated to this project for additional information and updates.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n C.A.R.S Project 2025: <\/span>63<\/span>rd <\/span>Street Re<\/span>construction <\/span>Project (Nall Avenue to Roe Avenue)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This is a <\/span>joint<\/span> project with P<\/span>rairie Village with Mission <\/span>serving as the administrator<\/span>. Construction is <\/span>anticipated<\/span> to begin in March 2025 and <\/span>is estimated to be completed within <\/span>180 days from the issuance of the notice to <\/span>proceed<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> Utility relocation efforts have already begun. More information can be found here<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 7\/30\/25: Striping occurred this week. The project is now complete besides final restoration.\u00a0<\/p>\n 6\/30\/25: Starting on July 1st, cement stabilization will occur. Paving is expected the following week on both the 7th and 8th, weather permitting.\u00a0<\/p>\n 6\/10\/25: Concrete removal is set to begin on the 19th.\u00a0<\/p>\n 4\/25\/25: Utility relocations continue. We anticipate stormwater work will begin in the next two weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n C.A.R.S Project 2024: <\/span>Roe Avenue (Johnson Drive to 63rd St.)<\/span><\/p>\n This is a joint project with Roeland Park, Fairway and Prairie Village with Mission administering the project.<\/p>\n The proposed improvements include mill and overlay with two-inch asphalt surface pavement repairs, median replacement, spot replacement of curb and gutter, sidewalks and ADA ramps, stormwater repairs and pavement markings. The traffic signal at Johnson Drive and Roe Avenue will be replaced, and pedestrian signals installed with a crosswalk on the east side of the intersection. A new sidewalk will be installed on the east side of Roe Ave. between 59th St. and Johnson Drive.<\/span><\/p>\n October 10 – Mill and overlay is starting on October 14 and will continue throughout the week. Upon completion, striping will follow.<\/p>\n September 10 – Stormwater drain is installed. Curb, sidewalks, patching and ADA ramps have been completed. Pavement is anticipated in 3 to 4 weeks. Mill and overlay is currently scheduled for late September.<\/p>\n \n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n C.A.R.S Project 2023<\/span>: Foxridge Dr. (51st St. to Lamar Ave.) Street Rehabilitation Project was part of the City\u2019s 5-year Capital Improvement Plan project for 2023. <\/span>The scope of work included full depth pavement reconstruction; installation of a new sidewalk and retaining walls; stormwater improvements; traffic signal buyout and replacement; streetlights; and pavement markings.<\/span><\/p>\n JOHNSON DRIVE LANDSCAPE RENOVATION PROJECT<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n The landscape on Johnson Drive, between Lamar Avenue and Maple Street, was completed in 2014. Over the past ten years, the area has experienced issues related to overgrowth, creating sight distance problems and attracting bugs. In response to concerns raised by business owners and to address the deteriorating condition of the landscape, the City decided to evaluate and renovate the corridor with a new landscape design incorporating native plantings.<\/p>\n The scope of work for the renovation project includes the removal of existing plants and replacing them with native plantings and 6 months of maintenance once the project is accepted as complete. The goal is to create a visually appealing and sustainable landscape that supports Mission\u2019s Climate Action goals. Native plants require less water and maintenance, provide habitat for pollinators, food for birds and sink carbon into the ground with their deep roots.<\/p>\n The 2024 Johnson Drive Landscape Renovation Project, which includes the landscape renovation on Johnson Drive between Lamar Avenue and Maple Street, was bid in January. The bids were opened on January 31, 2024. Three bids were received, with Country Brook Landscapers submitting the lowest and most responsive bid.<\/p>\n September 10 – The project kicks off this week with staging of new plantings, dirt, and mulch at the Outlook parking lot. Planting is expected to begin today, and the project should be completed by the end of October. Upon completion, the project will enter a six-month maintenance period.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Nelson Complex Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) is Johnson County’s oldest treatment facility, and its service area is comprised of two main tributary basins – one of which is the Mission Main (MTM1).\u00a0 The improvements project will upgrade the treatment facility as well as some pump stations and mains to address aged and deteriorating infrastructure and to comply with regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n Visit the project website to learn more: jcwnelson.com<\/a><\/p>\nC.A.R.S Projects by year<\/h3>\n
